Reality is a lot more boring than conspiracy theories, and yet somehow just as cold and harsh.

No forced pods or owning nothing or eating bugs. It'll simply be much harder economic conditions, where you'll be forced to work all day just to afford your little shack, your expired piece of meat or whatever. When bugs really will seem tasty because at least they're filling your stomach, better than being hungry.

Bread and circuses. There's always going to be a baseline level of comfort for people and they'll get as manipulated as they can within reason. If there was a situation where people had to eat bugs to stay full, it wouldn't be an ideal scenario for anyone. The reason people are able to get beaten over the head and robbed easily right now is because they're placated, they get almost everything they need and are able to spend leftover money on random luxuries to distract them more. People weigh the benefits vs the risks constantly and take the path of least resistance. There's more guns then people in the USA, can you imagine all of these people eating bugs while watching a small percentage of people drive by in lambos and eat steak? The masses are given just enough comfort and distractions to keep them in line and produce more goods.

Same reason why schizophrenics, neurotics and other mentally ill people are given free money. Housing. Food. Drugs that alter the way they think and feel. No sensible person wants to deal with the fallout of not supporting these people. It's no different for average people either.

That is very true. I guess I was just imagining a world where climate change and shit like that makes it harder to guarantee that baseline, food and water etc... But that's just doomer mentality.
