Imagine seeing a cop approach some people and order them to spill their drinks. They comply. You think to yourself, "wow, that was incredible! The way people listen to him! I wanna be just like that!" So, you start thinking, what is it about that man that gets people to just heed his commands, without resistance? The answer seems fairly obvious. He's a cop! He's got a gun, he's in uniform, he can arrest you. But now suppose that someone, or better yet many some ones, reject that explanation. They think that being a cop is at best weakly correlated with such occurrences and at worst completely unrelated. They propound an alternative, which we could call the Doughnut Theory. According to their theory, people who gorge themselves on doughnuts appear, for whatever reason, assertive and dominant, so people comply with their orders. Wanna be like him? Stuff an obscene amount of doughnuts into your mouth. And, well, that guy really does seem to like doughnuts! So, you give it a try. You eat at Dunkin' seven times a day. After a while, you want to test out your newly acquired skills. You approach a bunch of people and order them to spill their drinks. Much to your dismay, they call you a faggot and tell you to jump off a bridge. You apprise the proponents of the Doughnut Theory, thinking they'd repudiate it. Instead, again to your dismay, they tell you that you just need to eat more doughnuts, and that, actually, it's not just doughnuts, you also need to grow a mustache. When you tell them that they sound crazy and that their theory is clearly contradicted by reality, they call you an autistic incel who refuses to do the necessary work and prefers to bitch and moan about life.
