Fetal Congenital High Airway Obstruction Syndrome (CHAOS) | Memorial Hermann
Chaos;Child Syndrome is the name given to a set of symptoms which started appearing in numeral residents of Shibuya, since the Shibuya Earthquake in 2009. Its prominent symptoms include cell deterioration (accelerated aging, weakened muscles, green-ish skin) and severe delusional escapism. Its true causes remain undisclosed to the general public, covered as a form of PTSD appearing in those who have been traumatized by the aforementioned quake.
"Chaos Child Syndrome is a treatable illness, it is not dangerous, and it is not communicable."
"Harassment of patients is a violation of their human rights and is forbidden by law. Let us strive for an equal society, free from discrimination."
"A specific condition that appeared in certain victims of the Shibuya earthquake."
"Thought to be a psychogenetic mental disorder."
"It seems to be a form of schizotypical disorder; a condition where the patient does not recognize that they have a disorder."
"The originator of the name is unknown. It's said to have come from both a psychologist and from one of the patients."
"The name appears to have come from the fact that all patients with this disorder were young children at the time of the Shibuya earthquake, and the complexity of the circumstances surrounding the quake and their symptoms."
"That is believed to be the origin of the name 'Chaos Child Syndrome.'"
"All the Chaos Child Syndrome patients saw something nightmarish during the Shibuya earthquake, And they didn't believe what they saw."
"They refused to believe it was real. They though that it couldn't actually be happening to them. And then there was the white light..."
Those people who were undergoing exceptionally strong stress and shock became psychics."
"Escaping into their delusions wasn't enough for them. They tried to alter reality itself to escape the pain. And that's how they got their powers."
Takuru Miyashiro became a true gigalomaniac because he was the biggest coward who cannot accept reality.
Chaos Child Syndrome patients have delusions that alter their sight, their hearing, and even their sense of touch. Scientists call this phenomenon “Delusion Synchronization”, in which people are stuck in a “dream-like world” or a “delusion” that only they can understand. Patients at Hekiho Academy have brain waves that are causing them all to share the same delusion, hence the name “Delusion Synchronization”. Takuru, who recovered from Chaos Child Syndrome, was able to break the Delusion Synchronization from Nono Kurusu, Hinae Arimura, Uki Yamazoe and Hana Kazuki. As a result, Kurusu and the others were released from their delusions but they weren't able to handle the gap between delusion and reality, and went into comas. Everyone who was in a coma by then was someone who was close to Takuru. The cure for Chaos Child Syndrome after scanning Takuru’s brainwave patterns and turning it into an image. The image would then alter all the remaining Chaos Child patients brain waves and pull them back to reality.
In Robotics;Notes, Kaito Yashio and Akiho Senomiya develop a similar disorder known as Elephant Mouse Syndrome during the S.S. Anemone Incident when an experiment is done to all the passengers aboard the ship S.S. Anemone using Noah technology, and Kaito and Akiho are the only 2 survivors.
Elephant Mouse Syndrome causes Kaito to sometimes experience time 7 times slower, so that everything is in slow motion and he can react very quickly to things, while it causes Akiho to sometimes experience time around 60 times faster, so that the events of a minute in the real world go by in only a second for her and everything is a blur. This is likely also the result of Delusion Synchronization between Kaito and Akiho, after they were initially forced to have delusions about experiencing time at different rates, and since they were together and saw each other, their delusions synchronized.
Other than sometimes experiencing time at different rates, there are not any other major symptoms; there are no other gigalomaniac abilities besides experiencing time at different rate on occasion, nor is there accelerated aging. However, due to the similar way that Elephant Mouse Syndrome came into being, using the same technology, it is likely a similar disorder, just much milder than Chaos Child Syndrome. Elephant Mouse Syndrome can be probably considered an extremely weak form of partial gigalomania that is much weaker than Chaos Child Syndrome, and while it does probably involve Delusion Synchronization between Kaito and Akiho, neither of them is able to real-boot anything or has a DI-Sword. They just occasionally have altered perception of time. However, since Kaito is able to activate his “slow-mo” power at will and use it to his advantage, and both Kaito and Akiho have this as a result of altered brain waves, this is strong evidence that their Elephant Mouse Syndrome is probably a form of artificially-induced partial gigalomania very similar to Chaos Child Syndrome.
Right-Siders are referred to people on the "right side" of the digital or information divide. A right-sider has the necessary skills and environment to make use of information and communications technology such as an always active and easy access to the internet and knowing which websites and sources are only reliable. The ability to quickly find, share and receive high-quality information first is important to them and maybe some of them may find joy doing so. A right sider must also answer questions correctly with an explanation and important details of the subject to answer the question as constructive as possible.
Takuru proclaims himself as a right-siders and Onoe and Itou follows along with him.
Wrong siders are referred to people on the "wrong side" of the digital or information divide. A wrong-sider used to be referred to someone who finds information and communications technology difficult to understand and use like the internet. Lately, howerver, it is being referred to someone who lacks the ability to understand and use the information they have correctly, or they are just being straight up ignorant. On internet message boards, the term is often used to refer to people whose understanding is incorrect or whose information is out of date. Takuru as well as Kunosato uses this term in the latter sense of the word, not its original meaning. And both of them hate wrong-siders. This term is often used by Takuru to his classmates.
Takuru is an introverted, coward, arrogant and eccentric individual who is a self-proclaimed "Right-Sider" as opposed to the many wrong-siders who surround him, yetcalls himself a "normie" (a person who holds common beliefs, tastes and behavior patterns, yet by Takuru's definition, is a person who feels accomplished, and does what they love doing). This is largely due to him trying to stand out from the rest and feel special by having a meaning and purpose. His hobbies and behavior can be easily distinguished from those of a standard high schooler, making Itou find his idea of a "normie" to be weird.
As a "Right-Sider", Takuru finds joy by aiming to be superior than those who are naive by fulfilling his unquenchable thirst for knowledge. Takuru engages in filming, investigation and journalism in the Newspaper Club.
Takuru constantly tries to hide his true thoughts and feelings but can be easily seen through, which later on becomes one of the main reasons to why Hinae Arimura wants to befriend him.
in his delusions, he tends to dive into temptation. However, he seems to have discipline, good morals and ethics and never actually acts on his sexual, or violent desires. He leads an unhealthy lifestyle, choosing to eat or drink unhealthily, and avoids work involving physical effort.
Takuru often suffers from delusions during certain situations. Most of his delusions are either unpleasant or fairly erotic depending on what the player triggers in the current situation.
Unable to forgive Nono Kurusu and Wataru Sakuma after discovering they had lied to him about his parents' fate, he moves outside the Aoba Dorm to Miyashita Park, and from then on refuses to address Nono by her first name, claiming to not be her family. Ignoring Nono's many warnings, he keeps secretly investigating the Return of the New Generation Madness, due to his curious, selfish nature.
He can act socially inept at times, and tries to avoid too much attention, running away and/or becoming speechless when he gets too nervous. He always tries to hide or quickly apologize to Kurusu whenever she gets mad at him.
