Last time I played on a console was like back in PS3 days so that's why this question may come across as stupid. Do I have to pay for PSN if I didn't have a PSN membership on the PS4? Or is PSN free? I've been looking for an answer to this question for a while now

It's not so much about the exclusives. It's just about playing on a screen from my bed, which is something I miss.
